The Illinois Biotechnology Industry Organization adopts positions of support or opposition to legislation, policies, and practices which impact the biotechnology industry in the prairie state. IBIO works with the Governor, state agencies and commissions, the Illinois General Assembly, members of Congress and federal agencies, colleges and universities, and other policy-making bodies to ensure the vitality of the biotech industry in the State of Illinois. The policies are adapted at regular meetings of the IBIO Board or communicated by the Policy and Government Relations Committee. Main emphasis in the 2001 session is to support funding for life science research at our colleges and universities in the FY2002 budget, maintain a market-driven approach to pharmaceutical products pricing, support continued strong funding of Illinois' federal labs, and oppose legislation promulgated from misconceptions in the agricultural life science sector.
