IBIO: The Organization and its Mission

The Illinois Biotechnology Organization was chartered in January 2000 to serve as a voice for biotechnology companies currently based in Illinois and those considering locating to Illinois. The council represents companies engaged in biopharmaceutical, biomedical, bioagricultural and bioremedial endeavors.

IBIO was formed by a group of concerned industry executives to promote an environment for the growth of the biotechnology industry in the prairie state. IBIO is comprised of representatives from the biotechnology industry and related companies throughout the state.

IBIO is dedicated to creating opportunities that will enhance the economic growth and development of biotechnology companies, which in turn will make an important contribution to the economic prosperity of the state. As the industry's primary advocate for business growth and development in Illinois, IBIO is charged with educating public policy leaders regarding the role that biotechnology can play in creating job opportunities and increased economic activity.

IBIO provides an active forum for the exchange of ideas and information to enhance business opportunities including bio-partnering, strategic alliances and joint ventures. The Organization also works to promote research and development within the State's educational institutions, to expand technology transfer and innovative partnerships, and to launch an aggressive effort to meet the infrastructure and capital needs of the biotechnology industry.

As the recognized source of reliable information on industry issues, IBIO also serves as a lliaison between Illinois biotechnology companies, government, the media and the public-at-large.
